The weather was glorious and everyone enjoyed a day of visiting with neighbors, carding and spinning wool, a delicious lunch, and lots of door prizes. <center> <img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4126/5094406215_6db71bb3cb_m.jpg" height="240" width="180" alt="Master Weaver Violet Brown enjoying her craft." /> Master Weaver Violet Brown enjoying her craft <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/nativejackets/sets/72157625193499200/detail/" target="_blank">See lots of PHOTOS from the 13th annual Carding and Spinning Day</a> </center> Over 100 people attended from the local community including Master Weavers and aspiring Master Weavers, textile collectors, friends of the Wheelwright Museum, Santa Fe Community College faculty, and members of the press to report on the event. Writer and publicist Amy Steeby, and painter James Ayers and sculptor Craig Bergsgaard enhanced the day by bringing their works in progress for the weavers to critique and admire. The finished pieces will be displayed at Toadlena in an exhibit entitled Honoring Weavers with Canvas and Bronze next June 18th in conjunction with the posts next museum opening party. Clara Sherman, 1914-2010

Dear Friends <img src="http://nativejackets.com/images/newsletters/sherman.jpg" class="blanket" height="400" width="300" align="right" alt="Clara Sherman" /> It is with deep regret that we inform you of the passing of Clara Sherman on July 31st, 2010. Clara Sherman was a humble, sweet and gracious treasure of the Navajo people to her last breath. Clara received many prestigious awards in her weaving career of almost 90 years. This culminated with the SWAIA Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004 and the New Mexico Governors Award for excellence in the Arts in 2006. There are many stories about Clara and you are invited to share them with us. We will in turn share them with the other Friends of Toadlena. We are creating a special section on the web site to display fotos of Clara herself, her rugs and stories about her. You are invited to join the Toadlena Trading Post in contributing to Clara's funeral expenses. Mark has made a contribution but cannot bear the entire cost. The family would appreciate the assistance. Our condolences to her family. Dear Friends, We would like to update you on a few things with the Historic Toadlena Trading Post. First, there is an Opening at the Wheelwright Museum of the American Indian in Santa Fe, NM on May 15th from 1PM to 3PM. The exhibition is entitled: Nizhoni Shima' Master Weavers of the Toadlena/Two Grey Hills region <center><img src="http://toadlenatradingpost.com/images/invitation.jpg" height="414" width="592" alt="Toadlena Invitation" /></center> This will feature 35 textiles from the upcoming The Master Weavers by Mark Winter. Look for the publication date later this summer. Second, the Toadlena Trading Post will be participating in Native Treasures.
